 Our Latest Adventure

Nova Scotia, Cape Breton, Cheticamp Island - August 2007

In late August of 2007, the gang, which consisted of 2 adults and 2 boisterous kids under 10,  went to Nova Scotia, Cape Breton. Why Nova Scotia, you ask? Well, the first choice - Sweden and Russia - thanks to a weak dollar were tabled for a future.  Our favorite destinations like Central and South America are not very comfortable in August. Plus, we wanted to try something different and a little easier on the little guys. We love remote places. We love to feel like we have just discovered a place that every travel magazine overlooked.  It is becoming harder to find such places within a 7 hour flight time limit.

Ok, so enough of excuses why we went.  Let me tell you what we found. We found a low-key little island off the Cape Breton where the only traffic one runs into is the cows. The day activities may include but not limited to the blueberry picking, biking, hiking, or kayaking. Or if this is too much for a stiff city body, then maybe lounging on a beach or swimming in a lovely and warm waters of St. Lawrence Bay be more appropriate. Very unlikely that a guy next to you will be blasting his music or talking on a cell.  Very unlikely that there will even be a guy next to you.

And of course, you can not miss the stunning, breathtaking, spectacular, magnificent Cabot trail or the Highlands National Park or the lake Bras d'Or.  What's there? Just a beauty the way God intended it to be - unspoiled, unsoiled, uninhibited, with moose, bold eagles, whales, bears, and seals. And in the evening, when you want to give your feet and eyes some rest, you get your blanket, a bottle of good wine, some munchies, and head over to the cliffs where you can sit and watch a spectacular sunset over the Bay. The best part about it is that you will have a front raw seat every time with absolutely nothing abstracting your view, except maybe an annoying thought that someday soon you will have to return to your everyday life.  Enjoy the pictures!!!!!
